Hypoxic Training

Ihht - Höhentherapie

IHHT hypoxia training is a modern training system developed to use the positive effects of temporary oxygen reduction for health and performance. Hypoxia training, also known as altitude training, is based on a controlled reduction in the oxygen content of the air we breathe, which can trigger a variety of beneficial adaptive responses in the body.

In 2019, the Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to three researchers who deciphered the molecular mechanisms by which our cells perceive oxygen levels and adapt to them. The lower oxygen concentration in mountain air activates various positive processes in our body. The crucial reaction for altitude training with IHHT is that our mitochondria – the powerhouses of our cells – are trained and regenerated. Old, dysfunctional (senescent) cells are reminded to make way for young, energetic offspring. This improves the production of ATP, our body's central energy source.

In endurance sports, altitude training has established itself over decades as a proven method for increasing performance. Today, it is also used successfully to treat chronic and degenerative diseases and as a preventive measure.
During treatment, you lie relaxed on a therapy bed and breathe alternate normal air (21%), low-oxygen high-altitude air (9–18%) and oxygen-rich air (30%) through a breathing mask. The device simulates altitudes between 1,200 and 6,750 metres and adapts the programme individually to your training condition. Within about 40 minutes, an effective cycle programme is completed that mimics the ascent and descent in the mountains – without any physical exertion. For optimal results, 10–15 sessions with 2–3 units per week are recommended.
